Virgil van Dijk has revealed that he couldn’t sleep for two days after the Netherlands’ quarter-final defeat to Argentina at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
After losing 2–0, the Netherlands scored two goals in the closing minutes to take their final eight games against Argentina into extra time and a penalty shootout.

With Van Dijk missing the Netherlands’ first try, Argentina won 4-3 from a penalty shootout.

Also, in an interview with Viaplay quoted by MARRCA, reflecting on a disappointing defeat to Argentina van Dijk, who lamented a penalty mistake.
“I couldn’t sleep for two days after that match.
“You are so close after losing 2-0. Unfortunately you miss an important shot. It hurt so much (heartbreak.”
The Liverpool defender made five appearances in this year’s tournament.
