Last week, Rayasmisha, a BTech student at Presidency University, was stabbed to death by her cousin Pawan Kalyan on the university’s campus. “We got CCTV footage of him from the university.Once we understand why an outsider was allowed to set foot on campus, we will take action,” said Inspector Bharat.

    Authorities are on high alert

The incident raised concerns about campus security. Augustine George, President of Kristu Jayanti College, said: If you forget your student ID card, we will ask you to enter the room. We will install a handheld metal detector. I do everything I can to make my students feel safe. ”

Vivitha MK, Head of the Department of Journalism at Mount Carmel College, said: Visitors are required to register their name, contact information and purpose of visit. Visitors are only allowed inside if the department wishing to visit is first notified and given permission by the department. ”

    Worried about college students

However, the students are uneasy in light of Rayasmisha’s brutal death. Regarding the situation, a student at the Presidency University said: Yes, the university is to some extent responsible, but I have never faced any security-related issues.

On condition of anonymity, a Jain University student said: The problem is our popular culture, movies, and shows that normalize this kind of behavior (stalking and harassment). When such lawsuits are filed, the university tries to dismiss them as it affects the reputation of the university. ”

A Christ University student said, “It is sad that no action is taken after hearing of cases like this. I have seen and heard many such incidents from friends on various campuses. How do you complain when someone makes you feel uncomfortable being stared at, or when you hear a slander or comment being delivered?”

Gizelle Gina D’Silva, a student at Jain University, said: Even with the introduction of a new national education policy, there is still much to be done, but government initiatives are needed to educate the people. ”

About the solution, student Sim Jain said: He thinks one of the ways to increase safety is to make the complaints room managed by a separate agency from the agency and autonomous enough to be able to respond appropriately. ”
