Netflix’s hit show Stranger Things has been renewed for a fifth and final season in February 2022. Filming for Stranger Things Season 5 has yet to begin. Fans can expect something big in the storyline as the series moves into its final installment.
The Stranger Things sci-fi horror-drama television series was created by the Duffer Brothers, who are also showrunners and executive producers with Sean Levy and Dan Cohen.
Producer Shawn Levy spoke to Collider in December 2022 about the current status of the series.
He also revealed the script for Stranger Things Season 5. The new outing is “epic and deeply emotional,” and the creators bid farewell to Hawkins, Indiana.
“I know the Brothers have alluded to this publicly already, but when we sat there listening to the two-hour pitch-out of this final season storyline, we had dry eyes in the room. I don’t think when brothers are over. Yes, this final season is going to be epic and very emotional. The Duffer Brothers developed Stranger Things as a combination of investigative drama and supernatural elements, painted with horror and a childlike sensibility, while imbuing it with references to 1980s pop culture. There are several thematic and staging elements inspired by the works of Steven Spielberg, John Carpenter, David Lynch, Stephen King, Wes Craven and H.P. Lovecraft. They also drew inspiration from experiments conducted during the Cold War and conspiracy theories involving secret government experiments.
The drama is set in the 1980s, primarily in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, and explores several mysteries and supernatural events that occur around the town and what they bring to an ensemble of children and adult characters.
