Steve Kerr was certainly pleased with the Warriors’ thrilling 122-120 win over rival Memphis Grizzlies at the Chase Center Wednesday night, but his superstar Stephen Curry was the only one to beat him. I also know that I can’t get the most out of my emotions.
Curry was sent off with 1:14 in regulation after throwing his mouthpiece into the stands. This was in response to his 3-pointer shot, which was poorly advised by Jordan Poole after an offensive rebound reset his clock on the shot.
Shortly after the win, Kerr spoke to reporters and addressed Curry’s mouthpiece toss.
“I was confused when the referee called it out because I didn’t know what happened at the time. Then the coach said he threw the mouthpiece out of anger,” Kerr said. And do you think he threw it into the stands? On the side, yeah.So I think it was an automatic exit.He knows he can’t make that mistake again. But I was really proud of them. They fought and ran. They won along the way.”
Curry’s first question after the game was about the incident, and he explained why he was so upset at that moment.
“It’s been an important time in the game and the way our season has gone,” Curry told reporters. , Q4, runs, clutch situations, everything counts, so I obviously took myself out of the game and put the team in a difficult spot.
“But the intention and the energy around what matters in terms of winning, that’s all. Thankfully my teammates responded very well. Clay. [Thompson] with big shots. Finally the game winner and JP. The execution was great. There was certainly a sense of urgency, because it was necessary. Please allow my emotions to get in the way of it. ”
When Curry was ejected, he had a game-high 34 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter, and the Warriors had a two-point lead. Luckily for everyone involved, Poole’s miscalculation did not cost the game.
Poole was the hero of the game, scoring the winning layup with one second left.
