Cedar Meadows has raised $300,000 to build a new compound and chalets at the resort.
If you’ve ever dreamed of sleeping under the stars in front of wolves, it’s about to become a reality.
Expansion work is underway at Cedar Meadows Resort in Timmins. Last weekend, resort owner Richard Lafleur’s project raised his $300,000 from Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC).
The Timmins business is one of 13 businesses to receive cash in this funding round. Work on the Wolf Hut at Cedar Meadows on Norman Street began in September.
Lafleur says there are five two-bedroom chalets that can accommodate up to four people. One of the bedrooms is indoors and the other has a glass roof and walls so you can sleep with the wolves under the stars.
“Wolves, they’ll be all around you. You’ll be in bed and they’ll be in your face,” he said.
The wolf property has nearly 10 acres of land and can accommodate up to 22 wolves, Lafleur said. However, he aims to accommodate only his 5-8 units.
The goal is to start expanding this summer, says Lafleur.
NOHFC funds not used for the wolf sanctuary will be used for another exciting project at the resort. Work is underway on a lazy river in the shape of a moose head.
Once completed, Lafleur wants to install a dome as part of it so people can sleep under the stars.
Minister for Northern Development Greg Rickford and Timmins MPP’s George Pilley were in town for the NOHFC funding announcement. The event was held at the Dante Club.
