In May 2019, Pokémon announced a new mobile game called Pokémon Sleep. The only information provided about this game is that it will be a tool to help people practice better sleep habits, much like Pokemon GO helped them become more active.
Pokemon Sleep news went quiet after its initial reveal, with many thinking the game was quietly canceled, but a new patent suggests otherwise.
A reddit user discovered that visiting pokemonsleep.com redirected to a patent application filed by Pokémon. This error appears to have been fixed, but the patent still exists and is dated November 17, 2022, which is the latest information we have on the status of the game.
The patent, called “Gamification of Health Awareness Based on Sleep Patterns,” discusses at length how games are designed to measure and reward healthy sleep patterns. .
Below is an abstract of the patent, basically a summary of all the details of the patent.
“Users breed virtual lifeforms by practicing good sleep habits and enjoy breeding virtual lifeforms while maintaining motivation to practice good sleep habits.
The game server manages progress of the virtual lifeform breeding game, the game server includes circuitry configured to acquire sleep data including at least a sleep pattern indicative of the user’s bedtime and wakeup time, and the acquired sleep data. Save sleep data as sleep history. Update your breeding game based on sleep patterns in your sleep history.

So it looks like Pokemon Sleep is still coming, and you can use a healthy sleep schedule to “breed” your Pokemon.
Pokemon tends to host Pokemon Presents for Pokemon Day on February 27th each year, so it’s possible we’ll finally hear more at Pokemon Sleep.
