Two weeks of law enforcement from December 19th to January 1st kept the Westman RCMP busy with serious crimes.
During the week of December 19th to December 25th, the Westman RCMP dealt with 41 police incidents.
December 19 – RCMP is called out to two separate sexual assaults. Investigation is ongoing.
December 20 – The RCMP received a call from a Melitta individual asking police to dispose of his ferret. He was reported to have had hundreds of them. Police obtained relevant information and passed it on to animal protection services.
December 20 – RCMP is called to Sioux Valley after two gunshots are heard. Police conducted several patrols and investigations, but were unable to determine the source of the gunshots.
December 20 – RCMP called to Virden for an adult woman who caused a disturbance in an ambulance. She advised the woman that she didn’t feel safe.She learned that the police were present and she felt that the woman was safe.
December 21 – RCMP receives a call of a young man in Sioux Valley damaging the interior of a house with a machete. An investigation resulted in the man being arrested for mischief and intimidation. He was released at a future court date on the condition that he has not been in contact with other residents of the residence.
December 22 – The RCMP received a call in Sioux Valley about an adult man arguing with people in his home. He left before the police arrived.
December 23 – RCMP summoned to Sioux Valley for knife assault. An investigation resulted in a 29-year-old man being charged with two counts of assault with a weapon and his failure to comply with an order to release him. The victim suffered minor injuries to his hand.
December 23 – The RCMP was called to Sioux Valley for a vehicle that drove into a ditch. After an investigation, police learned that the driver of the vehicle did not have a driver’s license. The vehicle itself was unregistered. A total of 4 tickets were issued.
December 23 – Around 11:24 pm, a drunken woman joins Virden’s detachment. She is from BC and she plans to walk the highway, she said. She was arrested under the Detention of Drunk People Act because RCMP members on duty feared for her safety.She was also too drunk to care for herself. She was released the next morning when she was sober.
The Westman RCMP also responded:
- two traffic collisions
- 4 unstable driving calls
- 2 jamming calls
During the week of December 26th through January 1st, the Westman RCMP handled 39 police cases.
December 27 – The RCMP receives a call in Sioux Valley from a drunken man worried about his uncle who suddenly hangs up. The police confirmed that my uncle is safe. When the caller was updated, he didn’t remember why he called.
December 28 – RCMP receives report of online fraud at Sifton’s RM. The victim reported that $35,000.00 was transferred/lost. Investigation is in progress.
December 31 – The RCMP responds to a call from a man armed with a knife threatening residents at his Sioux Valley home. A 42-year-old male suspect was identified but left his residence before police arrived.The suspect was found driving his vehicle but did not stop by police. bottom. He came across a dwelling and barricaded himself there. An emergency response team was present and was able to safely apprehend the suspect. A 42-year-old man has been charged with six counts of disobeying a release order, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes, and resisting/obstructing security forces. .
The Westman RCMP also responded:

- 1 violation of the call for peace
- Two calls under the Mental Health Act
- 2 Suspicious Calls
Seven traffic enforcement and four curfew checks were conducted during this reporting period.
