Earlier this week, a substitute teacher at a high school in Palm Beach County was arrested for soliciting a 15-year-old girl to “have sex” with the woman’s boyfriend over Christmas.
Evelyn Hayes, 50, was arrested Tuesday on charges including soliciting children for illicit sex and illegal use of two-way communication devices.
NBC affiliate WPTV-TV said that Hayes, a substitute teacher at Palm Beach Central High School in Wellington, arranged for the teenagers to sleep at Hayes’ boyfriend’s house and engage in sexual activity on Christmas night. I am reporting.
Police say the teen has been helping his boyfriend, 50-year-old Thomas Hicklin, build an online dating site since November.
According to the arrest report, Hicklin texted the teenager on Dec. 18, saying he wanted her to come and “offered to buy the victim’s bra and underwear for a Christmas present.” sent.
Hayes and Hicklin reportedly texted on Christmas Eve and discussed the teenager’s arrival.
Hayes verified the texts with police, but claimed she was “bluffing him” about the sexual activity.
Hicklin was arrested and later released from prison on charges of soliciting children for illicit sex.
Hayes was given a bond of $28,000 and ordered not to have any relationship with Hicklin, the victim, or anyone under the age of 18.
Officials at Palm Beach Central High School or the Palm Beach County school district have not confirmed whether Hayes is still employed by the school or school district.
