IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay says his heart remains with NJPW, but he enjoys dating AEW because of money issues.
Ospreay recently gave an interview with Fightful Select on Friday at 12pm ET, saying that he doesn’t like the idea of living in the US because it makes him uneasy, but he was treated very well at AEW. Stated.
Ospreay had previously publicly stated that it had signed a five-year deal with NJPW in early 2019. This contract has not been changed and in early 2014 he is set to expire in just over a year.
Ospreay said he was highly paid by NJPW and still has his heart in the company. He said his 2016 offer from EVOLVE could open many doors, but working with NJPW was the right decision for him.
Regarding a possible future with AEW, it was noted in 2019 that Ospreay said he would not sign with AEW unless there was a partnership with New Japan Pro-Wrestling, and that has happened since. In an interview, he mentioned that money story, but he has a lot of insecurities about living and staying in the US, and is getting more comfortable in the UK, where he lived for a while.
Ospreay added that although he competed in AEW this year, everyone made him feel at home and enjoyed his time there.
Ospreay will defend the IWGP US Heavyweight Championship against AEW’s Kenny Omega at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 on Wednesday, January 4 at the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo.
