st. JOHN’S, NL — She was ready for bed when she realized Gladys Cormier, her Gladys Cormier on Cape St. Her George, won top prize with her ticket to Set for Life Scratch Her.
Cormier, who was in his pajamas, decided to scratch a ticket he had bought earlier in the day and was shocked when he found three matching symbols.
She said she was so excited she couldn’t sleep after realizing she had won the award.
“I asked my husband to come see me. He looked and said, ‘We won,'” Cormier said.
Atlantic Lottery’s Set for Life offers two options for top prizes. The winner will receive $1,000 a week for 25 years. Cormier accepts a lump sum payment.
Cormier and her husband plan to use the winnings to help their daughter, son and grandson.
They called my daughter right after they won and she came to see the tickets herself.
“Our daughter, she was so excited,” said Cormier. “She was dancing happily.”
Other plans for Cormier’s prize money include buying new hearing aids and vacationing this summer.
While she’s not a fan of flying, Cormier said there are many places in Newfoundland and Labrador that she hasn’t visited yet and would like to visit more of the state.
