Neurologists at the Allegheny Health Network (AHN) Headache Center are one of the first in the region to begin giving patients suffering from migraines access to an innovative new treatment called remote electrical neuromodulation (REN). Yes, you can manage your headaches better without medication.

Developed by Theranica, a prescription digital therapeutics company specializing in advanced neuromodulation devices for migraines and other painful conditions, the new technology called Nerivio® is worn on the upper arm and uses REN. to trigger endogenous descending pain inhibitory mechanisms. Pain modulation (CPM) to stop or relieve migraine and related symptoms.

“Tens of millions of Americans suffer from migraine, a debilitating disorder that significantly impacts their quality of life, and Nerivio®, a clinically-validated treatment option without the use of FDA-approved drugs, Andrea Synowiec, DO, FAAN, System Vice Chair, Department of Neurology, Associate Professor of Neurology and Assistant Director of the Head of the Head of the Allegheny Health Network.

The American Migraine Foundation estimates that the reported number of migraine sufferers of 39 million is actually a low estimate. This is because many people who suffer from this condition are not diagnosed or given the treatment they need.

Clinical studies have shown Nerivio® to be as effective as standard pharmacological options for acute migraine treatment. Theranica also recently announced topline results from a pivotal study demonstrating the efficacy and safety of his Nerivio® for the preventive treatment of migraine headaches. This is currently under FDA review.

Theranica, Highmark Health Plan, and AHN are currently collaborating on a Coverage with Evidence Determination program, with Dr. Synowiec serving as Medical Director. As part of the program, his Highmark members prescribed Nerivio will receive the treatment as a benefit covered by their healthcare plan. If you are not a Highmark member and are interested in treatment, please contact your insurance company for treatment coverage.

“Nelevio is an excellent treatment option for migraine sufferers, especially those who do not respond to medication or who cannot tolerate side effects. It is also effective and drug-free for teenagers suffering from migraines. We offer treatment options. “We are very grateful for the access to this treatment that Highmark is offering its members through their Coverage with Evidence program.”

“Highmark, an advanced health insurer, demonstrates freedom from the outdated paradigm that migraines can only be treated with drugs. We are looking at the medical benefits,” said Alon Ironi, CEO of Theranica. “Recent scientific findings indicate that pain control mechanisms in the central nervous system can be triggered by substances other than chemicals, as demonstrated in many of our clinical studies. is especially important for migraines where there is no “one size fits all” solution. In many cases, combination therapy may be needed to treat this common disease. ”
