Camden, New Jersey (CBS) — A 14-year-old boy charged with murder Camden County investigators said he shot and killed another teen after a birthday party.
Detectives say an unidentified 14-year-old boy killed Daimeon Allen outside Elks Lodge in Camden early last month.
Shamane Allen says his murdered son, Dai’meon, is one step away from justice.
“At the end of the day, I’m just asking for justice for him,” Allen said. “He deserves justice.”
The county attorney’s office acknowledged the hints from the community that led to the arrest.
“I can get some sleep,” Allen said. I’m getting real sleep now because I know.”
Towards the end of the party, prosecutors say an altercation broke out between the teenagers who escalated as they exited the lodge. was hit.
Chief Detective Robert Ferris says the stunned community helped investigators solve the case.
“It was a hit with the community and we got a lot of leads from the community,” says Ferris.
Meanwhile, Allen draws strength from his children, including Daimon, because he knows this arrest is just the beginning of a long process to win justice.
“He went and made sure everyone was okay and had strength, so I’m taking that from him too,” Allen said. “He’s a very strong 14-year-old. He stood on grounds and cared for so many people.”
Ferris says the investigation is still ongoing. He said several people were at the party and asked for more witnesses to come forward.
