Sleep consultants say new parents should start their baby on a sleep routine as soon as possible.

Lucy Wolfe is the best-selling author of “Baby Sleep Solutions”.

she said pat kenny show This can be done with minimal pressure on parents.

“I recommend starting the sleep that shapes your child’s sleep as early as you feel it suits you,” she said.

“There are some small things parents can do without putting too much pressure on them.

“The first few months are under pressure and don’t worry too much about sleep.

“Get to know your baby and learn a few little things that might help them sleep, like learning to read sleep language.

“Just understand the difference between being tired and being tired, which is often expressed by rubbing your eyes. [and] Big yawn.

“Learn and help your baby feel safe, loved and secure, then slowly introduce bedtime routine ideas without too much pressure.”

    “Circadian rhythm”

Lucy said babies need help regulating their internal clocks.

“The first is a baby born with a circadian rhythm, but not yet mature.

“The sleep hormone melatonin isn’t made until they’re a little older, maybe eight weeks or so.

“One of our jobs is to help them regulate their circadian rhythms.

“You’ve heard before that you may have a regular wake-up time after the first few weeks.

“Just expose your baby to bright natural light so he doesn’t confuse day and night.

“I highly recommend doing that early on because it creates a degree of predictability.”

    “Cues to late sleep”

Lucy said reading the clues is important.

“Sometimes the sleep piece gets lost a little bit because we’re stuck with the feeding piece,” she said.

“The need for sleep can get a little lost in translation as we wait for slow cues.

“Sometimes parents do [is] They are waiting for a sleeping squawk.

“The baby is exhibiting severe sleep symptoms such as eye rubbing, loud yawning and agitation.

“[This] It often means that the stress hormones cortisol and adrenaline are flooding the body, causing resistance to sleep.

“Both an early response to eating and an early response to sleep can really help during this time, which is often filled with a lot of pressure to begin with.”

    important aspects

She said there are some important aspects that parents should be aware of.

“An important feature of a bedtime routine is trying to do it before your baby gets too tired,” she said.

“Then I like the idea that the bedtime routine itself takes place in the bedroom where the child sleeps.

“They can develop associations with steps that lead to sleep time, but they all occur in the bedroom.

“Climbing inside, dimming the lights, closing the curtains, and changing diapers into tiny pajamas provides a great opportunity for connection as part of your bedtime routine.

“A lot of eye contact, a lot of dialogue,” she added.
