I will be the first to admit that I chose to forgo a bar, restaurant, or other business because it was so close to the Texas Tech campus. reason? I made the erroneous and ridiculous assumption that it was packed up to the gills. Of course, that may be true in some cases, but it is not always true in all facilities.
The truth is, you’re very likely missing out on some of the best Lubbock has to offer.
I love tech students. I’m a Tech graduate (WRECK ‘EM), why was I acting like I was scared to be around them?
I recently put on Big Girl Pants and tried two businesses from Lubbock. Paint Rock Cafe and Miguel’s (2002 Broadway). Both are very unique and cool places and one of them will definitely fit your current mood/vibe.
And the really interesting part? they are twins! They are owned by the same person and he can move between the two without actually going out.
Let’s start where I started: at the Paint Rock Cafe. This place Adorable.
The staff won’t turn a blind eye as you take selfies, drink photos, or snap a shot of your favorite niece in one of the cutest hanging flower chairs.
she is a fan I’m not usually a fan of flavored coffee, but “Let’s Go Girls” was delicious. Did you order by name? Yes I did. I also ordered a cranberry cream muffin which I inhaled before taking a picture.
The atmosphere is incredibly relaxed and the hours are extended until 9pm. So it’s a great place for Tech kids to study, and a great place for others to enjoy a comfy, chilled out place to hang out with friends. my family.
Right next door is Miguel’s which definitely has a ‘party’ vibe, but not to the point of being obnoxious. Full of cool hand-painted murals.
Needless to say, I got a slightly stiffer drink there – a really delicious draft sangria.
Miguel’s can fill up (approximately 800 people) during football season. It’s not soccer season now, not for a while. It’s actually a pretty spacious place with lots of booths, but if you want to feel the energy and action, you’ll have to sit at the 360-degree ultra-smooth bar.
Shortly after I took this photo, the bar started filling up. Despite this, I had excellent service from a very kind and attentive bartender who answered all my questions. Miguel’s has Tex-Mex favorites, a pool table, plenty of TVs, and a large outdoor patio. Something for everyone, really.
this is the truth
Technical students are one of the best things about Lubbock. They bring us new life, new energy, and new fun and cool things to do here in Lubbock. They are treasures and I love them. I may be a little biased. Ok, completely biased. It’s okay, I’ll always be Red Raider.
Tech students support the city just by being here. And we need to support businesses near campus. Because they’re not just for technical students. they want you too
Where to experience Lubbock’s signature cocktail, The Chilton
Lubbock’s signature cocktail is the Chilton, which is crisp and refreshing. Combine vodka, freshly squeezed lemon juice, soda water and salt to create a tantalizing cocktail like the West Texas Thunderstorm. Here are some bars and restaurants where you can taste this Lubbock original.
