DENVER (KDVR) — For Denver youth, it was a rough night when a night out in the lower downtown turned into a nightmare with a hail of gunfire.
A hail of bullets hit the rental jeep he was sleeping in. He was one of his four injured in the shooting at his LoDo. The victim said he was just grateful he was alive.
Denver police were called to the 18th Street and Blake Street area after a hail of shootings was reported around 1 a.m. Monday.
“Yeah, I was working in the back and started hearing something popping outside,” said Shane Cohen, a downtown worker.
Part of the scene was a public parking lot about a block away from where police first called. The shooting hit the Jeep and Juanes Francisco was sleeping after a night of partying.
“It was like pop. Pop. Then they were continuous,” Francisco said.
A bullet grazed his shoulder and he showed FOX31’s Vicente Arenas a bandage covering the wound.
“In that moment, when it happened, it hurt me. I didn’t know it was real,” added Francisco.
A total of four people were injured, but the rest of the situation is unknown.
Several cars were also hit. A bullet hole was seen in the apartment across the street.
“This is where I live, so you get nervous. resident Aramis Lugo said.
DPD considers the LoDo area to be a hot spot due to the high amount of crime there. A major security overhaul was scheduled to begin two months ago.
But now there is another shooting in the area that has become a painfully common problem.
Francisco believes the shooting was completely random because he works here from out of state and few people know.
The question remains as to who would want a mass shooting and why.
