Joy Behar attended Saturday’s “Good Morning America” to pay tribute to Barbara Walters, who died Friday at the age of 93.
Speaking to “GMA” on the phone, Behar recalled how Walters chose her for “The View” after seeing her stand-up comedy performance.
As Behar explained, Walters “understood” her sense of humor. “That was the start of her calling me and deciding to put me on the air,” she said.

Behar also provided insight into another side of Walters, one that may not be obvious to television viewers.
“She could laugh, have fun and tell dirty jokes,” said Behar. “She had a lot of fun,” she recalled. “We were buddies. We laughed a lot on and off camera.”
