Madison, Wisconsin (WKBT) – Researchers say many Wisconsin children struggle with mental health.
Children’s mental health experts and lawmakers met today to review the 2022 report from the Office of Children’s Mental Health.
Rates of depression and anxiety increased in the last year, according to the report. Children are also spending more time in front of screens.
Lacrosse president Jill Billings concluded the briefing by highlighting how the pandemic is exacerbating mental health issues.
Billings said, “We are hearing very disturbing trends as anxiety rates continue to rise, from suicide attempts to young people, especially LGBTQ youth and girls.”
Billings says he has good news.
The pandemic has sparked more conversations about mental health, especially among children.
Bullying and teenage pregnancies were also reportedly reduced.
