Gaston County, North Carolina (WBTV) – A Gaston County The man had trouble sleeping on Saturday after winning $250,000 on a $5 scratch-off ticket, according to lottery officials.
“I was just trying to figure out if I was dreaming or something,” said Paul Kobler Jr., 51, of Dallas. “I hardly slept after that happened.”
by North Carolina Education LotteryCobler, a machinist, purchased a lucky Mega Bucks Limited Edition ticket from Walmart on Newton’s Northwest Boulevard.
He said he took the ticket home and started scratching while watching TV.
“I couldn’t believe it,” he recalled. “I always thought, ‘This is not real.'”
Mr. Kobler went to the lottery headquarters to pick up his prize on Monday and took home $178,126 after being asked to withhold state and federal taxes, according to lottery officials.
He said he wanted to use the winnings to pay off his house and car and save for retirement.
“From here on out, I hope I can retire sooner than I thought,” he said.
Mega Bucks Limited Edition debuted in August with five $250,000 prizes, according to the NC Education Lottery.
With Cobler winning the final $250,000 top prize, the lottery begins the procedure to end the game.
