A new floating tent resort in the mountains of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (UAE) allows guests to sleep hundreds of meters above the ground.
The proposed row of tourist tents has up to 10 canopies, suspended from the mountainside.
The ambitious resort is called Floating Retreat, and its plans were created by Dubai-based design studio Ardh Architect.
Ardh Architect was approached by the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority with the aim of “researching new typologies of hospitality”.

Subsequent plans for suspended accommodations followed, with the design team describing each tent as a floating hotel room, with room service, entertainment and WiFi access provided via headsets and tablets.
Due to its resort location, the sides of the tent are made of fabric, but the front is constructed using transparent materials to ensure travelers get a panoramic mountain view. Privacy is also a consideration. Avoid floating rooms too close together.
Ardh explains:
According to plans, each room in the floating hotel will have a private bathroom, plus access to a five-star spa on top of Sharjah’s mountains.

The ground floor houses the main reception area with concierge services and a restaurant for guests. Private tours of the mountain are also scheduled.
It is set up to offer a variety of floating tent layout options with different guest booking purposes in mind. Suggested trip types include business retreats, spiritual escapes and yoga sessions. As such, specific preferences are taken into account to suit the needs of individual individuals or groups.
Regarding reservation availability, tents are available 24 hours a day during winter, but tents are available only during daylight hours from May to September.
No launch date has been announced yet – production of the floating tent resort is currently classified as ‘pending’.
