Pierre Gasly talked about some of the obstacles AlphaTauri faced last season and explained the importance of finding balance when self-evaluating.
The Italian team was unable to build a car that could score consistent points in the midfield and was unable to fight for a top ten position.
Gasly performed at a reasonable level, achieving better qualifying and race records than his teammate and scoring more points throughout the year.
This isn’t to say Tsunoda didn’t close the gap to the Frenchman significantly, but Gasly could be pleased with his overall performance.
After constantly battling on the front lines of midfield and scoring podiums, it was inevitable that Gasly’s results would drop in the AT03 car in 2021.

“But for our own mental health in F1, we’ve learned that it’s better not to look back at all the missing points or you’ll fall into depression very quickly.”
“For us, I think we could have done a better job on some occasions.
“Obviously it’s been a very difficult year for us.
“Sometimes there were mistakes on our part and sometimes we just had bad luck, but it’s been a very challenging year.
Gasly points out key points, clearly understands his own mind, and shows how best to balance performance and overall health.
All drivers analyze and analyze their race weekends throughout the year, so it seems logical to spend some time away or detach from the stress of the paddock.
Daniel Ricciardo spoke about the importance of disconnecting and recharging in 2023. This seems to underline the stress and demands of F1.
Some drivers, including Lando Norris, have been more outspoken about their mental health issues.
Either way, Gasly is undoubtedly excited for the next chapter of his Alpine career.
