Tributes were paid at the funeral of a 22-year-old man in Largan, who died in a kayaking accident over the holidays.
His funeral was held at noon today at St. Peter’s Church in Largan, with condolences to Odoran O’Neill’s mother, Claire, father, Maurice, sister Michaela, and immediate family.
At the funeral, several eulogies were read by Mr. O’Neill’s friends and family.
He was praised for his intelligence and drive, and mourners heard he had “achieved GCSEs and A Levels and started his apprenticeship at Norbrook.”
“Odoran planned his life and knew exactly where he was going, something many 22-year-olds can’t say.”
There was also a lighthearted moment when his friends and family shared stories of Mr. O’Neil lighting a croissant on fire and changing from jeans to jogging pants to go to his 21st birthday party.
One family member praised O’Neill’s infectious humor.
Another described him as the life of the family’s party.
Mr. O’Neill’s candid advice was appreciated.
Another praised his personality, saying, “He wasn’t trying to be funny, he was trying to be himself.
“He was a natural comedian. He didn’t care what other people thought.”
One friend described Odhran as “a loyal and loyal friend”.
Friends thanked Mr. O’Neill for the positive impact they had on their lives.
“Having Odoran in your life made life easier and more enjoyable. When I first met Odoran, it didn’t take long for my heart to warm.
“The number of people who have met him once or twice and sent condolence messages is testimony,” said one friend.
“I owe Audran so much,” added another.
O’Neill was described as a “strong independent young man” with a positive attitude.
“To describe Odhran’s outlook on life, there are 300 good points for every 3 bad points.
“He hasn’t been here for a long time, but he had a good time.”
Mr. O’Neil’s sister Mikaela delivered the final tribute.
She wore her brother’s T-shirt and admired his “extravagant” dress sense.
She thanked Mr. O’Neill for being a good big brother.
She explained that she was close with her brother throughout her childhood.
She thanked Mr. O’Neil for being her rock, saying he was “too pure for this world”.
“I will always love you to the end,” he concluded his tribute.
