My Hero Academia has many lovable characters, but none of them can match Eri. In fact, Eri has become one of the anime’s underdogs, and this season Boku no Hero Academia dropped one of the best nods to her history.
All was revealed when Season 6 returned to air this month.Following its Fall 2022 launch, My Hero Academia returns this week with a post-holiday episode. I got a new OP there. The clip contained a lot of spectacular visuals, but the one that caught our eye was a direct reference to Eli’s past in Overhaul.
I love how when Shigaraki’s body is ripped apart to reveal Tenko, his face distorts into a shape reminiscent of All For One
The appearance of approaching Tenko reminded me of the “shadow” that Overhaul casts on Eri at the school festival, and when she smiled, she was blown away.

As mentioned above, one of the OP shots focuses on a young Shigaraki. As the clip begins, we see him wrapped in a human-shaped mass that appears to be in pain. Eventually Gunk is blown away and left with his child Shigaraki. The form tries to hug the child and sees All For One’s face in its tendrils, but Shigaraki is eventually saved from Misa.

This may sound familiar, but that’s because Eri was given a very similar scene. Deku and his class put on a show that made Eri smile. This milestone inspired her to lift the weight of the overhaul that weighed on her. In that scene, a young girl breaks free from a dark mass and breaks it with excitement. It looks like it’s done. It’s going to be hard to accomplish, but this OP seems confident our hero can get the job done!
