JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — A periodontist incorporates videos with 3D graphics to show patients how treatment works to reduce patient anxiety.
Dr. Jose Arauz and his team create a calm and stress-free atmosphere.
“We have to keep building that trust and keep earning it,” says Arauz.
Arauz, a periodontist, has seen how anxious and stressed new patients can be when they come into his office.
“Despite having a referral from a general practitioner, they are often reluctant to talk about why they are here. “It was difficult. As we learned from the behavioral sciences of dentistry, it was clear that patient communication was poor,” Arauz said.
To reach out to patients, he thought of different ways to share information and thought one of the easiest ways to learn was through visuals.
After the initial examination, Arauz walks the patient through the necessary steps with X-rays and digital software. Then show them a video of the procedure made by Dental Play, a company run by dentists that uses 3D images to create videos.
“What we’re trying to do is help or assist patients through this process of being able to show and share as much information as possible with them,” Arauz said.
After watching the video, Arauz says his patient is visibly relaxed.
“Like body language, the level of interest changes completely.
