After failing to find a shot on target in their Boxing Day loss to Fulham, Palace dominated the match with two first-half goals from set-pieces.
Palace struggled with consistency in the first half of the season, but entered the new year sitting just below the top 10 in the Premier League.
“It was a really great team performance,” said Vieira. “I think we played really well. We were aggressive, we were disciplined, we showed quality when we had possession. It was a really good performance.”
Asked after the Boxing Day loss if the victory brought him relief, Vieira said: “It was a relief from people who doubted us, the team, the players, but I always said, I’m my player. I know really well they can play.
“It’s important to me and it’s important for everyone at the club to trust their players. We need to understand who we are as a football club. The difficult part is the Premier League. When you have a young group of new players…there are ups and downs.
“I didn’t think we were the worst team after Fulham, and I don’t think we’re the best team after today. I encourage everyone to be a little more consistent with their emotions and keep their emotions under control.”
Vieira credited goalkeeping coach Dean Keely with the idea of the set piece that resulted in the goal.
“We’re looking at every aspect of the game and of course set-pieces are one of them,” he said. “I think Dino’s idea was good and the players executed it well.”
