KUALA LUMPUR, Jan. 12 — Renowned chef Datuk Rezuawan Ismail — better known as Chef One — revealed in an Instagram post that his mother, Noraini Abdullah, passed away this morning at the age of 93. .
Noraini, affectionately known as ‘Cik Ani’, died at 6:20 am in her sleep at Gleneagles Hospital in Ampang.
Her body will be buried at the Putra Mosque in Putrajaya this afternoon after prayers.
The chef’s mother was admitted to Gleneagles Hospital 10 days ago, according to mStar, in declining health after battling other ailments including cancer and Alzheimer’s and dementia.
The 64-year-old chef, who shared a close bond with her mother, regularly shared updates about her declining health on Instagram in the days leading up to her death.
“Waiting for the soul of a loved one to disappear is the most painful feeling,” he wrote in one of the posts.
“As the days go by, it’s even more difficult to see my mother grow frail to the point where she’s just skin and bones. This is common with terminally ill cancer patients.”
According to yesterday’s post, Chef and his family wanted to prepare for his mother’s death and give him a full medical procedure “to the last minute.”
He also visited his mother, who was undergoing treatment, and thanked the people who had sent their condolences.
“Thank you for your many kind wishes and doors (prayers) for my mother. Alhamdulillah.”
