Conway, Arkansas – Central Arkansas nonprofit organization on a mission to give every child a place to sleep.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace helps families one bed at a time, and thanks to Conway’s one mother, six children now have their own beds, she said. Told.
Jalishia Wallace, mother of six, said her children need their own beds. So she sent an application to her SHP to make beds for all children.
“A friend sent me a Facebook link, so I filled out the form. I didn’t think it was real, but it was,” says Wallace.
Wallace pointed out how her family is coping with the lack of beds.
“Most of the time they want to sleep with me or with me,” Wallace said.
Wallace said it was difficult as a single mother to have six beds, but she believed her children deserved their own beds so they could sleep on their own terms.
SHP Vilonia chapter president Tammy Wright said children in need of beds are often overlooked.
“There are children in our town and across America who go without beds,” Wright said. “People often don’t think about whether the child has a bed to sleep in.”
The Bilonia chapter of the SHP will start in April 2022, Wright said, although the chapter is based in Bilonia, it also supports the people of Conway. She said she wasn’t sure what the response would be, but said there had been a steady number of applications.
“We are steadily taking requests for beds and have just built 56 beds,” says Wright.
With the help of donations, Wright said he was able to purchase equipment and build beds from scratch in the homes of people in need.
“We raised about $25,000, which was raised by the 2022 Conway Area Leadership Institute class,” Wright said.
Wright pointed out why she believes having a bed is so important for children.
“We don’t think about their self-esteem or the confidence they need when they wake up in bed every morning,” Wright said.
Wright said he plans to continue, and hopes to get more donations so he can further his efforts throughout Faulkner County.
Wallace said he appreciates their service.
“This is even better for them to have their own space,” Wallace said.
