The era of Giants baseball is over.
Brandon Belt’s 12-year tenure at the Bay officially ended Tuesday after the former Giants first baseman agreed to a one-year, $9.3 million deal with the Toronto Blue Jays.
As difficult as it was for some Giants fans to understand, Belt’s wife Haley was just as emotional.
The veteran wasn’t sure about his MLB career future until a few months ago, but his captaincy will continue into the 2023 season.
San Francisco selected the belt in the fifth round of the 2009 MLB Draft out of the University of Texas. He helped the Giants win his Series at the Worlds in 2012 and his 2014, and his one of the most memorable home runs in franchise history against the Washington Nationals in his NLDS in 2014. I hit one.
He played more than 13,000 games for the Giants, but injuries maxed out his abilities and sapped a good deal of his time. And his final season at the Bay was cut short by knee surgery in September.

In 12 seasons with Orange and Black, Berto posted a .356 on-base percentage and an OPS+ that was 23% above the league average.
His departure leaves Brandon Crawford as the only remaining player on the current roster from the 2012 and 2014 championship teams. Bittersweet, all the great times Belt was a part of are now just memories.
But it is nothing but love for the eternal giant.
