Authorities have charged a Winthrop man with sexually assaulting one of three boys he adopted from Colombia this summer, officials said.
Yu Kiyoshi, 52, has been charged with assault and assault on a child under the age of 14, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office. A judge ordered him to post his $2,500 bail. Authorities say Yu must have no contact with his children and have his passport confiscated as part of his bail deal.
According to investigators, Yu adopted three boys from Bogota last summer, ages 8, 9 and 13. One of his children said Yu had repeatedly abused him at a hotel in Columbia before coming to the United States, where police allege the abuse continued.
The indictment stems from one incident in which Yu forced a boy to stroke his penis, prosecutors said.
Police began investigating Yu in August when Rhode Island police found the boys in a car parked at a casino where he had been gambling. She told the police that she was put to bed, never showered, and made to wear the same clothes for days.
“There are many disturbing aspects to this case and it certainly does not represent the vast majority of adoptive parents who strive to provide their children with a safe and loving environment. These children and Cooperating and certainly the children themselves are passing on the offensive behavior of this individual.”
