Newswise — Schaumburg, Illinois — Today, the American Society of Neurosurgeons (AANS) and the Neurovascular Division of the Congress of Neurosurgeons (CNS) and the American Society of Stereotaxic Functional Neurosurgeons (ASSFN) announced that the Society of Neurosurgeons (SNS) is the new Neurosurgeon -Started the Scientist Training Program (NSTP). SNS established NSTP to increase the pool of neurosurgical residents conducting research and increase the success rate of becoming independent neurosurgeons. NSTP serves as a formal mentored research program for neurosurgical residents who have either initiated a protected study year or have already completed a protected study year.
The primary goal of this new program is to provide participants with the skills, mentorship, education, and experience necessary to earn individual research funding (such as the National Institutes of Health’s K award and R01 research grant). , is to improve human health. Additional research by clinician-scientist neurosurgeons is essential to the fundamental discoveries that advance new treatments and new treatments.
“SNS is grateful that the AANS/CNS Department of Cerebrovascular Medicine and the American Society of Stereotactic Neurosurgeons have provided significant financial support to the NSTP. It will help support disability-focused NSTP grant applications.” Linda M. RioMD, PhD, Vice President of SNS.
William J. MackMD, Chair of the AANS/CNS Cerebrovascular Division, added: The NSTP program offers a unique opportunity for mentored research and formal training through a national network of experienced clinician scientists. There has never been a more exciting time to be involved in cutting-edge neurosurgery and neuroscience research. ”
“Stereotactic neurosurgery is a growing field, with ample opportunities to develop new treatments for patients suffering from neurological and psychiatric disorders. Neurosurgeons-scientists bridge knowledge from the laboratory to the operating room. play an important role in the Andre G. MachadoMD, PhD, President of ASSFN.
